Title: Fit To Be Tied - Part Two
Authors: [info]mercsgoodgirland  [info]bigbadjayne

Summary: Kaylee doesn’t handle boredom well. Jayne does.
Disclaimer: Firefly, Serenity, and all related characters are copyright 2002-2005 Mutant Enemy, Inc., Universal Pictures, and 20th Century Fox. This is a work of fanfiction. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warning: NC-17, warning for D/s power play, bondage and adult sexuality
Setting: Post BDM
Word Count: 3330

A/N: Take two well-known writers of Firefly fan fiction and turn them loose on a torrid tag fic featuring bad ass mercenary Jayne Cobb and the ship’s irrepressible girl mechanic, Kaylee Frye, based on the prompt: ‘ROPE’. In this two-part PWP, creative use of cordage and carnal couplings are offered up with a liberal dose of humor. Read it, but whatever you do, don’t take it seriously – the authors certainly didn’t! Feedback is always shiny! Thanks.

As many of you know, in December of 2007, I underwent a Roux-En-Y gastric bypass. My lifelong obesity had begun to take a toll on my health: hypertension, edema, diabetes severe sleep apnea and chronic joint pain. Now , eighteen months later, I've lost 152 pounds and no longer suffer from any of those problems. Where I used to barely make it from the grocery store out to my car, now I run a mile at a pretty brisk clip.

I feel wonderful, energetic and vibrantly alive! I'm smaller than I was at age 18, smaller than my adult children and husband have ever seen me. People I've known for decades pass me in the store and have no clue who I am now. It's funny as hell.

Cut for the medically squeamish... )

In the mean time, I'm gardening and beekeeping, writing a lot and playing music. I've composed two new original Firefly-based songs to add to the five others in my  "Songs From The Black" performance for the Charlotte Can't Stop The Serenity charity screening this coming Saturday, June 27. Details HERE. if you're within driving distance of Charlotte NC, come on out, hang with a great bunch of Browncoats and help us support Equality Now.

My husband and I live on a 12 acres nature preserve in the western North Carolina foothills called TwoTrees. Having grown up on a large state park (my dad was the head ranger), I am fascinated by all aspects of nature. For a number of years, I've had a special interest in honeybees. Here in the US, honeybees are increasingly rare, dure to a variety of diseases and something called 'colony collapse'. Since bees are incredibly important in food crop production because of their work as pollinators, this has significant implications.

I mentioned to a friend of mine who is a beekeeper that I was interested in learning apiculture from her. Nothing much came of that until she and her husband sold their rural home and moved to town to be closer to their daughter's school. She called early this week to see whether we were still interested in having a beehive here and learning about their care. I was thrilled! And so we now have our first nucleus (starter) hive and I have become an apprentice beekeeper.

It's been cool and overcast and the Little Sisters are still out of sorts from being moved. When I went down to get the mail on Thursday (the hive is about 50 yards from the mailboxes), they chased me back up the hill. No stings yet! Colony activity looks normal and they are beginning to locate local nectar sources, especially all the tulip poplar trees in bloom. We probably won't get honey the first year, while the colony is building strength.

I'm glad to have a chance to learn beekeeping from another woman (most beekeepers are men!) and am grateful to the bees for the work they will do in helping to pollinate our garden.

[info]big_bad_man  and I are back from our anniversary trip to the mountains, where we spent the weekend in an amazing little place called Hawks View House . I have never stayed anywhere so gorgeous in my life! We hiked in the blossoming woods, scrambled around on huge rocks, took pictures galore and enjoyed the clouds playing tag over the surrounding countryside. Rain and sunshine took turns and when things got chilly outside, we stoked up the woodstove. Cooked good food, played a little music and realised just how lucky we are to have found one another.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend, behind the cut, just to give you a taste of paradise. The link above gives you a much better sense of how cool the house really is (and reasonable).

Paradise.... )

Tomorrow,  [info]big_bad_man  and I will have been married fifteen wonderful years. He's really pulled out all the stops to celebrate, renting an amazing little cabin high up in the Blue Ridge for a cozy, romantical weekend. Got steaks, got chocolate, got bourbon and Amaretto, but best of all, we got each other. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

And on another note, the $2200+ sale I made today to a major collector of my jewelry really helps out, since we had to put new tires on my car and the hubby needs a root canal and crown...  I am grateful to the cosmos for providing once again.

As many of you may know,  [info]big_bad_man  and I live on top of a mountain in northwest North Carolina, in the midst of the Big Woods. This time of year, it's very beautiful here, with the hemlock trees (evergreens for you folks elsewhere) covered in sea-foam green new growth and pale green buds emerging on the oaks, poplars, maples and beech trees. Many of the trees around us are from 75 to 150 years old and we were very careful to disturb them as little as possible when we built our home five years ago. We even hand-carried materials in to the site so as not to compact their roots.

In summer they give us lovely shade and in autumn, their reds, golds and yellows are amazing. But today, with a cold front moving through and 50-60 mile per hour wind gusts roaring up the ridge, they're just flat out scary. We've had several days of rain, the thin mountain soil is saturated and soft, and every time I hear that roar, I pray.

I don't wanna get squished like a bitty li'l bug!

Over the past couple of years, a number of you have commented on how very much you have enjoyed my Firefly stories pairing Jayne and Kaylee.  [info]het_reccers is a community that specializes in het romantic pairings. They're featuring the good ship Jaylee until April 1st, which doesn't leave a lot of time.

If there are specific stories of mine you've really enjoyed, they're all listed in my sidebar, with ratings, summaries and hotlinks. I would be ever so grateful if you'd pimp a few for me. Just sayin'.

I've known for almost a year that my Firefly story, "Old Warriors", featuring Mal and Jayne, had been selected for production as a podcast by the good folks at "Tales of the Verse".

Well, I just found out that IT'S UP!!!!!  You can listen to it  HERE.

That thumping you heard earlier...?  Just me, jumping up and down.  *grin*

Are men neurochemically predisposed to lock their keys in their cars?

About 7:00 last night, just as a big front was blowing in, I got a call from my dearly beloved telling me that he had... yep... locked his keys in his car once again, along with his jacket. Fortunately, this time it was unnaturally mild and he was much closer than the last time.  Mind you, he has a long history of doing this, and I no longer find it amusing. I threatened to wire his keys to his ass with a length of aircraft cable.

He's a smart guy - really. But forgetful. So I scrambled around the house, found my keys and his spare and drove into town. It's about a 35 minute trip. Anticipating that he might need to grovel, he had me meet him at one of our favorite cafes a few blocks from his car and treated me to dinner by way of apology. Like I said - the man's not stupid.

On the way out of the cafe, we bumped into one of our sons and his lovely girlfriend, so that was a nice surprise. We don't get to see him and his brother nearly enough, but I refuse to play the Guilt Trip Mom bit.

And on the matter of writing, I've been caught up in holiday orders, inventory and getting all our records together for the tax accountant. Somehow, that and a bad case of writer's block have kept me from working on any fics to speak of. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So... those of you who enjoy my "Firefly" fiction will shortly have a new multi-chapter story. Jayne's accompanying Kaylee back to her home world to meet his in laws for the first time and unexpected complications ensue. Keep your eyes peeled!

First of all, thanks so much to all my flisters who offered support this past weekend when I went out to Missouri to visit with my father, brother and sister-in-law. The plane flights went very smoothly, despite my anxieties. The time with my father, who will be 85 in May, was bitter-sweet, as his Alzheimer's Disease has recently taken a down-turn and we are facing some tough decisions regarding his care.

For the past two years, he's been a resident in a really wonderful assisted living facility and he's been very happy there. My brother, who lives nearby, has been going over every couple of days to help our dad shower and change clothes (he doesn't remember to anymore). They have him over or take him out to dinner a couple of evening a week and to church with them on Sundays. But because of recent changes in his status, we've been advised that the facility he's so happy in can no longer handle his care.

Dad's currently undergoing an in depth geriatric evaluation and depending on the results of that, will either go to live with my brother who will engage a full time health aid or will enter a dedicated Alzheimer's unit. In either case, the changes in his familiar surroundings and routine are likely to increase his confusion.

He knew immediately who my husband and I were and was able to engage in short conversations but clearly has no short term memory or sufficient focus to complete many simple tasks. Still, he was sweet and loving and it was wonderful to see him again.
